During the summer of 2025, a team of restoration practitioners working together completed a project that has been over a decade in development. The Greater Oregon City Watershed Council, working in partnership with landowner Port Blakely, and funders including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Oregon Wildlife Foundation, and the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, completed a primary construction phase of the Upper Abernethy Aerial Large Wood project. Contractors included design by Otak and Altap Restoration, construction by Evergreen Developers, and wood placement by Columbia Helicopters.
We will be sharing more exciting news and stories from this project over the next few months!

By design, trees were tipped to provide intact root fans. These trees were then transported by helicopter to specific locations along the creek and placed to build structures that will create habitat for native fish over time by retaining gravel, creating scour pools, and shading the creek.
